The Importance of Fuel and Fleet Cards

Fuel/fleet card programs now include a variety of innovative front- and back-end capabilities.
/

Fuel/fleet cards are an important corporate card type for midsize and large businesses. They tend to be easy to issue, manage, and fund from the businesses’ perspective and are highly effective at controlling fuel and maintenance costs on large fleets of commercial vehicles. Many cards also come with helpful incentives, such as discounts on gas, as well as robust fraud controls, digital wallet functionality, and integration into enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and operational workflows.

This report provides critical data for card providers, financial institutions, payment technology vendors, and other industry stakeholders on how businesses fund and use fuel/fleet cards, what areas of friction are encountered and can be improved upon, and which capabilities, both current and emergent, are most important. This report is primarily based on two surveys. The first is a Q2 2023 Datos Insights online survey of 1,037 employees of midsize and large organizations in 11 North American, European, and Asia-Pacific countries. The second survey gathered views from 250 executive decision-makers in the U.S. and Canada from midsize and large corporate organizations.
